SkyBridge registered funds of hedge funds – Series G and G II – are designed to serve as a core hedge fund holding providing additional diversification to client investment portfolios. We seek to produce capital appreciation while minimizing drawdowns through non-traditional risk exposures with low volatility and low correlation to traditional markets. To achieve the funds’ objectives, SkyBridge allocates assets across certain hedge fund strategies. SkyBridge registered funds of hedge funds are structured as onshore Delaware LLCs that are taxed as regulated investment companies (RIC). The registered funds have modest minimum investment requirements and are accessible to a broad range of suitable investors.

An Investment in a Fund is Not Suitable for All Investors. Investors Must Understand That:

  • Performance can be volatile
  • There is a risk of loss of principal due to leverage, short-selling, or other speculative investment practices, including risk of entire principal loss
  • There is limited liquidity in this investment due to the fact that liquidity is obtained exclusively through limited periodic tender offers
  • The investment time horizon is expected to be a minimum of three to five years
  • There may be certain conflicts of interest in the Adviser’s operation of Series G and GII
  • Diversification does not assure a profit or protect against a loss

Philosophy and Process

We combine a top-down portfolio management strategy and a bottom-up manager selection process with an institutional-quality risk management framework.

Portfolio Management Manager Selection Risk Management

Our investment team conducts fundamental research to establish a top-down view of macroeconomic and geopolitical conditions in order to help identify market opportunities, set strategy performance forecasts, and determine strategic and tactical portfolio weightings. Our approach to alpha generation is:

  • Thematic and Concentrated: We typically allocate capital to 3-5 high-conviction core themes and 20-40 managers at any given time, which is more concentrated than the average fund of hedge funds. In each fund, we allocate a maximum of 20% to a single manager and 40% to a single sub-strategy.
  • Dynamic and Opportunistic: We typically turn over 30-50% of the portfolio each year based on evolving market conditions and shifting opportunity sets. Due to our dynamic forward-looking approach, we view Series G as a core alternative investment allocation and the personal CIO of a client’s hedge fund portfolio.

Our due diligence teams employ a disciplined process to evaluate a hedge fund manager’s business, infrastructure and operations. Overview of manager selection process:

  • Initial Screening (5,000 managers): We evaluate a large universe of managers based on 1) investment process, team and terms, 2) risk management policies, limits and guidelines, and 3) operational systems and service providers.
  • Approved Manager List (100-200 managers): After disciplined qualitative and quantitative assessment, we product a due diligence scorecard and assemble what we believe is the optimal mix of managers and strategies from which to build our portfolios
  • Managers in Portfolio (20-40 managers): We typically allocate to 20-40 managers at any given time, with our due diligence teams conducting active and ongoing risk management and monitoring.

Our risk management team conducts quantitative and qualitative assessments in attempts to anticipate the performance of underlying investments given the hedge fund strategy employed. Active portfolio management is used, with the goal of creating diversified hedged portfolios. Risk management considerations are key factors in the investment decision-making process. Our institutional-style infrastructure and processes include:

  • Dynamic Escalation Guidelines  |  Forward-looking Scenarios  |  Tailored Due Diligence  |  What-if Approach to Portfolio Management

Custom Separate Accounts

In addition to registered and private funds of hedge funds, SkyBridge provides customized separate accounts and hedge fund advisory services. Clients include family offices, endowments, foundations, sovereign wealth investors, and a Fortune 500 pension. The separate accounts and advisory businesses apply the same standards and methodologies used by the commingled funds of hedge funds. The separate accounts have varying levels of discretion that seek to capture the client’s investment objectives and liquidity requirements.

Skybridge Opportunity zone reit

SkyBridge Opportunity Zone Real Estate Investment Trust, Inc. (“SOZ REIT”) is a private, non-exchange traded real estate investment trust (“REIT”) with a mandate to invest in residential, commercial and industrial real estate in U.S. Treasury-designated Opportunity Zones.

The REIT’s management team will focus on building a diversified real estate portfolio – by geography, property type and developer – in Opportunity Zones. The REIT intends to focus on the development of new projects and substantial redevelopment of existing ones, including multifamily, industrial, and hospitality facilities. However, until the REIT has raised substantial proceeds and achieved substantial scale, it may be limited in the number and size of acquisitions it makes.

The private REIT offers an investor-friendly structure with mandatory distributions, a liquidity option beginning in 2022, and no K-1's.  It is only available to accredited investors (generally, individuals having a net worth of at least $1 million not including the value of a primary residence, or earning at least $200,000 ($300,000 joint) in each of the past two years).
